Betsy Nichols will present at Metricon 4 to be held in Montreal on August 11, 2009. The presentation will focus on the use of models to extend the relatively simple counting and aggregation metrics that characterize most analyses that I have seen to-date. In particular, models can be used to identify statistically significant differences between metrics from multiple groups. Linear regression models can be used to characterize change with various levels of confidence. Without dwelling on the (beautiful, yet boring to some) intricacies of the underlying mathematics, the talk will illustrate with a few carefully selected examples, the pitfalls associated with over-simplified analysis where results can be misleading and lying without statistics is the unhappy result.
