MetricsCenter

MetricsCenter
PlexLogic

PlexLogic creates Internet services that measure, analyze, and help improve critical business processes.  This web site is the home of MetricsCenter, the first on-demand web site for delivering metrics to public, community, and enterprise constituencies.  You can learn more about MetricsCenter here and about our community efforts here.

In addition to creating the MetricsCenter cloud service, PlexLogic is a recognized leader in the disciplines of security, risk, and IT infrastructure measurement, metrics and modelling.  Some of the major recent contributions made by PlexLogic to advancing the state of security metrics include:

  • Creator of MetricML, a framework for defining and sharing metric definitions and data
  • Leadership in the Center for Internet Security Consensus Metrics Project:  PlexLogic lead the Incident Management metrics effort and was the primary authoer of the schema used to create complete and unambiguous metric defintions for the project.
  • Leadership in the SecurityMetrics.org Community -  This includes chairing or serving on the Program Committee for the first seven Metricon Workshops, contributing content to http://www.secruritymetrics.org web site, and managing the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. • Founding member of the Cloud Security Alliance Metrics Working Group
  • Leadership in the MetriSec community -- Program Committee work
  • GENI Project:  Measurement Workshop, invited participant
  • One of Twelve Primary Authors of the ISACA Balanced Score Card for Security Metrics Project.
  • An expert consultant to the General Accounting Office for researching best practices for security metrics in Federal Government Agencies
  • A faculty position with IANS specializing in the application of security metrics in commercial, government, and educational organizations
  • Contributor of chapters on security metrics to three books:  Security Metrics, A Beginners' Guide by Caroline Wong, October 2011, McGraw-Hill;  Beautiful Security, April 2009, O'Reilly; and Security Metrics--Replacing Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt by Andrew Jaquith, Additon-Wesley, 2007
  • Numerous presentations and podcasts for organizations such as RSA, CERT, EWF, IANS, and numerous enterprises and vendors that are interested in security metrics.

By contributing some of its resources to the creation and initial population of a Security Metrics Catalog and dashboards based upon public data, PlexLogic hopes to kick-start the process of identifying and defining a common repository of practical and useful metrics for the purposes of corporate governance, risk and compliance management.

While this web site focuses on measuring and modeling security as an initial application of MetricsCenter, all of its services are equally applicable to quantitative analysis of of "deep web" data sources such as those currently being made available by the US Government.  PlexLogic's first focus has been quantitative analysis of security but our view is that security is merely one of many interconnected disciplines in decision support for which measurement, metrics, and modeling can yeild valuable insights.  The deep web and its vast and growing variety of heterogeneous but interconnect data sources represents a obvious target for future MetricsCenter applications.
